CQC

The Care Quality Commission (CQC), the body that regulates healthcare providers in England, has carried out a routine inspection of Umar Medical Centre on the 7th March 2018. The inspectors raised concerns about our systems, processes, governance, and staff management, and unfortunately rated the practice as ‘inadequate’.

They did however acknowledge that the practice has been negotiating a period of transition, with recent changes to the GP partnership and a new practice manager, and that we have also experienced a turbulent time over recent months with staff absence.

They did also find that we treat our patients with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect; that we are understanding of personal, cultural, and social needs. They also noted that the practice is responsive to the needs of older patients, and that we are providing good support to our patients with mental health needs and dementia. Further, they recognised that we deliver care and treatment according to evidence-based guidelines.

We take the inspectors’ concerns very seriously and have liaised with CQC to develop a comprehensive plan to make the necessary improvements. Our priority has always been to provide high quality medical care for our patients. We welcome the CQC input, which has helped us to focus on the areas that require most improvement.

We are taking steps to make immediate improvements as well as putting a longer term solution in place. With a strengthened management team and a more robust system of governance, we are confident that we will meet the inspectors’ requirements over the coming months.

We would like to thank our patients for their loyalty and support and assure them that the surgery remains open and that we are very much committed to making these improvements so we can continue to offer a dedicated and caring service to our local community. If you have any concerns, please feel free to speak to one of our practice team and we will be happy to answer any questions.
