Appointments and Out of Hours

Olive Medical Practice is open to all our patients every working day, Monday – Friday on the telephone and face-to-face from 8am until 6:30pm, and until  8:30pm on Wednesday evenings. We offer GP appointments all throughout weekdays (excluding Bank Holidays and Staff Training Sessions), from morning through to early evening.

The practice is currently operating a directly bookable system. Clinics are booked on a weekly basis and they will be open to book from the Friday prior to the beginning of the next week. There are a limited number of pre-bookable appointments that will be available for the patients to book into, and here you may specify the doctor you wish to see. Once these are fully booked and an urgent appointment is required to see the GP, patients are advised to call in the morning at 8am so that an urgent appointment can be booked for them for that day. Please note that it is not always possible to request a specific doctor when booking an urgent on the day appointment.

The practice has also now implemented an ‘On Call facility’ which will ensure genuine emergencies are provided with timely access to Practice services. This facility is usually available throughout the week.

Patients may now book a GP appointment online at: https://patient.emisaccess.co.uk/

** Please note patients will need to register for this service before it can be used for the first time by contacting Reception in person to fill out the relevant paperwork – you will need to bring proof of ID (photographic) with you**

Due to confidentiality reasons access can only be set up on an individual basis and you will not be able to make an access request on behalf of family and friends. For more information please contact reception.

Our normal GP appointments are 10 minutes long, if you need to discuss more than one problem, please let Reception know at the time of booking and they can book a double appointment for you.

The practice is a member of Blackburn with Darwen’s Local Primary Care GP federation. Local Primary Care federation runs a GP extended access service that provides additional appointments at four neighbourhood spoke surgeries in the evenings and at weekends. Patients can be booked into one of the four spoke surgeries via the practice receptionists provided the reason for the appointment meets set criteria. Please ask at reception for more information.

Cancelling Appointments

If you no longer require your appointment, please cancel it at the earliest opportunity by contacting the surgery via telephone or in person. This prevents the appointment being wasted and it can be offered to someone else who needs to be seen.

Out of Hours

For urgent/emergency queries outside of the normal working hours, which cannot wait until the Surgery reopens, please telephone the Out of Hours Service on 111 for non-urgent medical advice.

In an Emergency

In an emergency situation which requires an ambulance please always dial 999 immediately, or attend the Accident & Emergency (A&E) Department at the Royal Blackburn Hospital.

Please let us know how we are doing by completing our Friends & Family Test
